Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining: tools to uncover hidden information in data

Date: Tuesday 4th July at 7:30pm
Presenter: Dr Bea de la Iglesia, University of East Anglia
Venue: Anglia Ruskin University, East Rd, Cambridge CB1 1PT
Synopsis: Knowledge Discovery and Data mining (KDD) is a very large and fast flowing area of research. It has huge potential application to many areas of our everyday life, given the increased accumulation of large data stores. In fact, efficient and effective data analysis is the key to solving most modern-day scientific and business problems. In this talk we review KDD, the tools that it offers, and the shortcomings that can be expected. The talk will be delivered by analysing a number of different real world case studies to show the potential of the discipline in context. The talk will be aimed at those with a background in Computing Science, but with limited knowledge of data mining techniques.
